April 10-12 — Wood Engraving: Mighty Miniature Prints with Joanne Price

$525.00

Wood Engraving: Mighty Miniature Prints
3-Day Workshop with guest artist, Joanne Price
April 10-12, 2026 | 10:00am – 4:00pm daily
$15 materials fee, lunch provided

We are delighted to welcome noted printmaker, Joanne Price, to Print House for a three-day intensive exploring the art of wood engraving. Known for her refined technical skill and accessible teaching style, Joanne offers a clear introduction to this miniature yet expressive relief process.

Wood engraving is uniquely capable of combining delicate, fine detail with the bold graphic character of traditional woodcut. Its small scale makes it ideal for holiday cards, artist’s books, illustrated projects, and stand-alone prints. Over the course of this workshop, participants will learn the fundamental skills needed to engrave, ink, and print on end-grain blocks, building toward a personal finished piece.

To cap the experience, we will hold a print exchange on the final day—an excellent opportunity to begin or expand your own art collection.

Expect to:

  • Learn the basics of engraving tools, sharpening, and safe handling

  • Understand the properties of end-grain wood blocks and how they differ from other relief surfaces

  • Explore mark-making techniques that create tone, texture, and expressive detail

  • Practice inking and hand-printing methods for crisp, consistent impressions

  • Complete a small engraved print and participate in a group print exchange

  • Work closely with Joanne in a supportive studio environment
