Join guest artist PD Packard for a hands-on printmaking workshop exploring the creative potential of Akua Liquid Pigments. Perfect for artists of all levels—from complete beginners to experienced printmakers—this 3-day intensive will introduce innovative techniques for layering, blending, and designing bold color patterns on kozo (mulberry) paper.

In this immersive class, you’ll:

  • Learn how to create both delicate washes and vibrant, saturated hues with Akua soy-based, water-washable pigments

  • Explore approaches that merge printmaking, painting, and dyeing techniques

  • Experiment with multilayered color and pattern design

  • Transform your printed papers into three-dimensional box structures

  • Learn how to utilize your prints into your personal print editions, mixed media works, and paintings

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a collection of richly printed papers and unique sculptural works, as well as a deeper understanding of how to push the expressive possibilities of Akua Liquid Pigments.

PD PACKARD

PD Packard is a multimedia artist who takes printmaking off the table, transforming two-dimensional prints into dynamic three-dimensional paper works. PD earned her BFA in Textile Design and Fashion from Central St. Martins in London, where she studied on a full scholarship. She was awarded a Fellowship Residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy, sponsored in part by The Boston Printmakers and Speedball Art Products. Her work has been exhibited widely across the U.S. and internationally, including at the Tate Britain (London), the Guanlan International Print Biennial (Shenzhen, China), the Amsterdams Grafisch Atelier (Netherlands), and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (Minneapolis, MN). Her pieces are held in prominent collections such as MoMA’s Franklin Furnace Artist Book Collection (New York), the Boston Public Library Print Collection, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Taichung City), and the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia (Italy), as well as numerous private collections worldwide. She was also commissioned by Speedball to create an educational video on Printing Decorative Papers with PD Packard in collaboration with Akua Inks inventor Susan Rostow and Christina Pumo.
