September 19-20, 2025: Monoprint Comprehensive
TIME: 10:00 to 2:00 both days.
This 2 day class is taught by Denise Markbreit - Printmaker and Print House Founder/Owner.
In this high energy printmaking class you will be lead through a series of exercises in mono-printing and monotype making.
We will discuss the inherent differences between these two printmaking processes.
You will print by hand and use a printing press.
Akua (a soy based ink with easy cleanup and no need for solvents), rollers, brushes, rags, mark making tools, stencils and stamps will be used to create your work.
We will cover an assortment of registration set-ups so your prints always look clean and you develop the ability to layer color, imagery and mark making.
Discover how ink can be modified and altered to yield surprising results.
Learn the joy of embracing happy accidents and ‘Ah Hah!’ moments.
You will leave this printmaking extravaganza with one-of-a-kind prints, finished works, great starts for future development, and works in series!
Prior printmaking experience is helpful but not a prerequisite.

DENISE MARKBREIT
PRINTMAKER and FOUNDER-OWNER of Print House
Denise discovered Akua ink - a soy based, safer printmaking solution while at an artists’ retreat. It was a game changer for her printmaking practices. Delving into safer techniques, without solvents or chemicals, opened up a world of eco-friendly printmaking possibilities including Mokuhanga, Mokulito, Mixed Media printing and Solar Plate print matrixes. Denise has been hooked on green printmaking ever since!
In addition to her pursuit of printed fine art images, Denise creates hand printed home accessories, and print based mixed media images and sculptures. Denise also teaches printmaking classes and workshops.
In 2018 Denise founded the Asheville Print Studio + Gallery. After the devastation of Helene in 2024 she founded Print House with fellow printmaker, Anna Bryant, in 2025. Denise holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and an MST from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her fine art prints have been exhibited in numerous galleries and institutions across the country and reside in art collections worldwide.
