Week 1: Drawing Fluid & Screen Filler

September 12, 2025, 6-8:30pm

Discover the painterly possibilities of screen printing with water-soluble drawing fluid and screen filler. This resist method lets you create direct, expressive marks right on the screen—no exposure unit needed.

We’ll explore the interplay of positive and negative space, from loose brushstrokes to fine detail, giving you a fast, intuitive way to bring your images into print.

All materials are provided. Just bring your ideas, your curiosity, and whatever you’d like to sip while you print (BYOB).

This is an introductory-level workshop, great for anyone who’s ever been curious about screen printing or just wants to try something new. Keep an eye out: deeper dives into each of these techniques will be offered in future sessions.

Spots are limited—join us this fall and get your hands inky!

ANNA BRYANT
Printmaker and Co-founder of Print House

Anna’s work and expertise span several print mediums. She has worked for years primarily in relief and traditional screen printing techniques, and more recently has focused on low-tech, alternative approaches such as monoprinting with screens—methods that encourage freedom, spontaneity, and playful experimentation within the medium. Anna began working alongside Denise Markbreit when the studio was still Asheville Print Studio and Gallery in the River Arts District, helping to revive and grow the space into what is now Print House at its new downtown location. In this class, she brings her experience and passion for accessible, hands-on printmaking to guide students in exploring linocut and creating their own striking prints.

DENISE MARKBREIT
Printmaker and Co-founder of Print House

Denise discovered Akua ink - a soy based, safer printmaking solution while at an artists’ retreat. It was a game changer for her printmaking practices. Delving into safer techniques, without solvents or chemicals, opened up a world of eco-friendly printmaking possibilities including Mokuhanga, Mokulito, Mixed Media printing and Solar Plate print matrixes. Denise has been hooked on green printmaking ever since!

In addition to her pursuit of printed fine art images, Denise creates hand printed home accessories, and print based mixed media images and sculptures. Denise also teaches printmaking classes and workshops.

In 2018 Denise founded the Asheville Print Studio + Gallery. After the devastation of Helene in 2024 she founded Print House with fellow printmaker, Anna Bryant, in 2025. Denise holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and an MST from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her fine art prints have been exhibited in numerous galleries and institutions across the country and reside in art collections worldwide.
